Man Utd: Alejandro Garnacho concern raised as club ‘agree on’ summer replacement | Football | Sport

Rio Ferdinand has admitted that Manchester United starlet Alejandro Garnacho must develop his decision-making in the final third if he’s to reach the levels of teenage sensations before him. Garnacho is enjoying the best season of his career and regularly acts as Erik ten Hag’s most dangerous attacker but has been the source of some frustration.

The 19-year-old has flourished into a permanent fixture in Ten Hag’s side, starting 25 consecutive matches in all competitions.

He has leapfrogged £86million flop Antony in the right-wing pecking order, making up United’s strongest front three alongside Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Hojlund.

Garnacho’s seven goals make him the club’s joint-fourth-highest goalscorer this season with Rashford, but his tally of three assists in 37 appearances can improve.

The Argentina international was crucial to United’s 2-0 win against Everton last Saturday. He used his pace, directiveness, and quick feet to win both penalties at Old Trafford.

But he could and perhaps should’ve added two goals of his own from two positions where an assist was also on had he looked up and kept his composure.

Garnacho’s current quality and sky-high potential are clear to see, but his decision-making is a trait that needs work if he’s to retain his status as a regular starter.

Ferdinand has reminded frustrated fans of Garnacho’s age. However, he believes the United No. 17 can’t be in the same conversation as breakout talents Wayne Rooney and Jude Bellingham without that trait.

“[He’s] young. Most young players do everything, and then that’s the hardest part of the game: decision-making,” Ferdinand explained on Vibe with FIVE.

“Most of the young players, other than your super-elites like the Rooneys when you come through, the Bellinghams, etc…

“Other than those guys, they’re getting that right at such a young age which makes them that elite level and special.

“Garnacho, the only part of his game at the moment for me that he needs to work on is that decision-making. But I think that’s just youth. I hope. You’ve got to develop that.”

Pressure will only likely increase from the summer. Reports claim United are in agreement over one transfer target ahead of the summer – Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise.

The 22-year-old Frenchman would represent more of a danger to Antony than Garnacho. But at the same time, he’d be arriving at Old Trafford with the view of starting regular games.

Garnacho has plenty of time to fine-tune his attacking prowess, though, and he knows what he knows to improve to reach the next level.
